SPANISH LANGUAGE COURSES

At all levels, oral language development is stressed. Skills in reading and writing Spanish are also studied. Class time at TLAHUICA emphasizes communication skills and the use of correct grammar is included in the exercises used in class. Total immersion in Spanish has been proven to be the most effective way of learning Spanish. The methods used at TLAHUICA combine a variety of techniques which, over the years, have proven successful in learning a second language. some classes will use the new revolutionary visual link method which has been successfully used in some colleges and institutions. FACULTY

All teachers at TLAHUICA are qualified Mexican instructors with many years of experience in teaching Spanish as a second language. Many teach grammar and conversation classes. Others give conferences on various aspects of the Mexican culture. Some of our instructors have taught Spanish in the United States in the Peace Corps program.

STUDENT LEVELS, TESTING AND PLACEMENT

Each student will be given an evaluation exam to assess his oral and written Spanish skills. According to the results of this exam students will be assigned to their grammar and conversation classes. Students are grouped as closely as possible at their respective levels to assure the intensity and pace of each class.

Periodic evaluations will be made to ensure that the students´ placement is appropriate.

PERIODS OF STUDY

Classes begin every Monday, YEAR ROUND. A minimum study course of two weeks is suggested but a student may enroll for as many weeks as desired. Beginners with little or no knowledge of Spanish, should plan on studying for at least 2 weeks in order to develop a strong background in Spanish.

El Salto Cascade

Every day, students will have three hours of grammar, with no more than 5 students per teacher. The remaining two hours are devoted to controlled-conversation classes. Lectures and conferences will also be given on various subjects of interest such as: The Mexican Family, Customs and Traditions of Mexico, the Mexican Political System, History of Mexico, Literature and Art in Mexico and others.
